Circa 1960s | Crystal glass, gilded metal
A beautiful and rare pair of Schneider crystal glass and gilded metal candleholders exemplifying midcentury French design. Schneider was founded by two brothers, Charles and Ernest Schneider, with Henri Wolf before WWI. Charles was the artistic director and trained at the Beaux Arts School and Daum, and was greatly inspired by Art Nouveau. After WWII, Charles’s sons, Robert and Charles, started a glassworks production at Epinay-sur-Seine. Early production was designed by Charles senior and Robert. These works in glass were mostly clear glass drawing inspiration from past designs and Scandinavian influences. The glass forms are solid, and created via the formation of thick flowing glass which gives a fluid and organic form.
